Quite a few years ago I got a guitar in the hopes that I would be a cool musician. Nothing ever came of that dream, but if you are anything like me, and you cannot play any instruments, don’t worry! These top five best steampunk guitars are so amazing it would be enough to just stand on stage and hold one of them to be cool!
Artist Thayer Demay created this stunning musical instrument in response to the lack of steampunk acoustic guitars and he has a point because even on this list, it is the only acoustic guitar. Every embellishment on the guitar was either bolted or nailed on – that’s right, not a single drop of glue. You can read more about the inspiration and work that went into creating this acoustic guitar as well as see several more photos of this guitar on the Thayer Demay website. I was astounded to see how sorry looking the guitar was before its glorious steampunk transformation and I would also recommend exploring the rest of the website as there are some truly amazing sculptures.
I couldn’t find the original site for this one as it no longer seems to exist, but I just had to include it on this list! According to MusicRader “Thunder Eagle’s Villanizer was born a humble Jackson Randy Rhoads. A length of copper pipe, a custom-made oil gauge, handful of intricate gears and a rusty/hammered paint job later and it’s the finest example of a Steampunk guitar you will ever, ever see.” They voted this their number one steampunk guitar but we have more to come!
This mean looking guitar is the work of Marcoe Marconi and is just one in a series of nine that he was working on. I recommend that you go and check out the pics of his other creations too. There’s a stunning red one too, but the gauge (and is that a hookah pipe?) really did it for me on this one.
This spectacular bass was created by Molly ‘Porkshanks’ Friedrich for Benjamin Ensor of the band Mungus. Just check out the tentacles on this baby! When I first saw this I thought there is no way someone could actually play it, but she says the tentacles can actually be moved out of the way. Brilliant! If you want to commission a piece or just want to see more of her creations take a look on DeviantArt.
Is it a guitar? Is it a gun? It’s the Victorian Axe Cannon 03 and the ultimate steampunk weapon of rock destruction! Absolutely amazing and you can find out more on creator AstroHelix’s DeviantArt page, along with advice if you’re planning on creating something similar yourself.
